Gretchen Leggitt - Confluence
OG Puffy - 1P
The color balance with Gretchen's blanket was an interesting adventure for our sample team and me as we explored specific hues within the print and what our factory machines could do. Once the test prints were dialed in, we moved on to the sample where we found our next challenge of fine-tuning the backer and trim colors. Originally, I had tried to use a seasonal color to maintain a healthy BOM and overall margin. However, after seeing the first samples we quickly adjusted the backer and trim colors to enhance the subtle but poppy blue hues in the print.
DJ Javier - In The Balance
OG Puffy - 1P
D.J. is a Filipino American artist, designer, and art director, known for his bold artwork that finds its inspiration from his Filipino heritage, intertwined with the diverse countercultures of Southern California that inspired him since his youth. Exploring the different balances of colors D.J. sent our team during the development stage was incredibly exciting as I was able to experience the power color can have when placed correctly and with other powerful and well-balanced colors.
Corinne Weidmann - Lauterbrunnen Valley
OG Puffy - 1P
Corinne is a Swiss-born and based artist who specializes in modern mountainscapes and landscapes of Europe and the Pacific Northwest. She pours abstract, theoretical, and philosophical concepts and visualizations of landscapes into her work to re-create sceneries that feel other-worldly. Creating Lauterbrunnen Valley on Rumpl's blanket was a new twist of a challenge for me as we strived to have some of the canvas texture transfer over to the printed blanket. Through small touch-ups to the print to ensure we could see the pop of canvas texture in her print, we worked closely with our sample team to dial in the printers so we could capture the uniqueness of Corinne's style in this blanket.
Nathan Brown - Cozy Dimensions
OG Puffy - 1P / Nanoloft - Travel / Everywhere Towel / Beer Blanket
Nathan Brown is a Nashville-based artist who draws inspiration from skateboarding, painting graffiti, gradient color palettes in nature, city life, and structural lines in architecture. "Seeing people happy because I brought color and life to a space is a huge motivator." Nathan's piece was by far the most dense blanket artwork I have worked on and required a lot of dialing in on the blanket's 30-denier Polyester test print before we could move forward with other material test prints. We had to adjust a few colors and work closely with our sample team to focus on hitting obvious gradients that worked with our printing color profile without striving too far away from Nathan's original color specs.
Before this project started, Nathan was commissioned to complete the mural in the Rumpl HQ! This was an awesome opportunity to meet with him in person and chat with him about his personal design approach when it comes to his pieces.
